4th July 2010
The weekends have been packed with activities and I’m glad that I’m meeting the IJ gals almost every other week. In fact, we are heading to Bkk at the end of the month, the Hen’s party without the Hen =_=
So anyway, 4th of July was truly packed to the brim and the day started so early!!
We started that beautiful and cooling Sunday morning with a 5km run at Pasir Ris for “RunforCancer” event. The groggy BF and I woke up at 7 plus and took a long drive. I was in a bit of nerves with the run given how “untrained” I was for the run. The IJgals had such grand plans to start training but we only managed a miserly 1 run – 4 rounds – at Toa Payoh stadium.
Oh well, whatever it is, I finished the run! And without stopping too, although the BF would say it was at at “kan” slow speed. I may not have signed up if it was for any other cause but for this cause, I am glad to have done my little part for it.
We headed to Tampines Mall for a quick bite and a well-deserved Yakun toast breakfast before heading home for a quick wash. It was off for Boyboy’s birthday celebration. As usual, the family had to scramble to find a place to eat and we eventually settled on “Bosses” at Vivocity. The food was yummie and almost every dish from the appetizer to the yee mien was fantastic. My favourite? The Szechuan fried chicken niblets and the fried yee-mien. Every wedding dinner should provide Bosses’s fried yee-mien!
Full from lunch but never too full for desserts! We headed to Awfully chocolate where the 7 of us huddled around a small table enjoying our delectable sweet treats. After a satisfying lunch, we did what the Seowsyewleetan does best – mahjong-ing! And that’s what we do. Heading off home to work those calories off on the mahjong table.
Sidenote: Mahjong may be consider a vice but to me it is the best thing ever created – it really helped in the Seow’s family bonding and it has been almost a weekly affair where we gather on the square table to win each other’s money!
That was not the end of my day! I did say it was a busy Sunday for me. The BF and I were to meet Mel & Bryna and their other halfs for “The Full Monty”. We put on our Sunday best – heh – and headed over to the National Library. The play was well-worth the very expensive tics ($70 bucks!). Perhaps the experience was enhanced since it was the last day of the play’s run and hence the closing speech was long-er and more heartwarming.
I watched the movie eons ago and as far as I remember, didn’t think much of it but this adaptation was way better than I expected. The casts were fantastic in reprising their roles and I liked that even without inducing too much local lingos and over-the-top personification of “Singaporeans” they manage to retain its uniqueness and doesn’t seem too “ang-mohish”.
We went prepared with sunglasses to see them in full monty but the glare was too bright and too quick for our eyes to adjust so we missed the chance to see them in their birthday suits. heh. Alas, it was the last night of the play’s run when we went or I would have urged everyone to go watch the show!!
Phew, finally got this off and break my weeks’ hiatus. ta.
The Full Monty
was awesome! One of the best plays I’ve seen. Blog more laters.
Mr Rock, My New Love
I gave my first time at a concert to “Mr Rock” – it was truly an enjoyable experience. Lots of screaming, swaying and bopping up and down. He was such a fantastic singer – hitting all the high notes, singing a varied selection of songs and truly entertaining with different segments to thrill.
I loved the segment where he reminisced about his time playing in “Ming Ge Chan Ting”, the part where he “spoke” to the audience (with a cut out version of him), the part where he “zai ge zai wu” to tunes like “Nobody” and other cheesy girl-pop dance tunes.

He proved to be such an excellent “live” singer. Fantastic and no scrimping on his high notes. It was a fantastic concert, imho. Even till now, every time my iPod shuffles to his song, I will smile and think of the day he stole my admiration away.

I am so looking forward to that date – because I am… going to catch Jam Hsiao (蕭敬騰) at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Woohoo! I couldn’t contain my glee and shrieked yesterday when that snippet. Woohoo!!!! Yippie!
One too many

From top to bottom: “Losing my virginity” by Richard Branson, “Plain Truth” by Jodi Picoult, “Daniel Isn’t talking” by Marti Leimbach, “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini
I was on a book frenzy lately and managed to amass 4 books in the span of 3 weeks. I am now halfway through the first book and can’t wait to get started on the rest. The books were all bought on the cheap – from second hand book stores and online livejournal second-hand books site. The price of the books more than justify the pleasure of reading it. Updates will be done on my “Who Reads” page if they are worth mentioning
Okay then, back to my book. Tata..
Snippets of our Love Story #8: Our “Loh-mantic” date
Here’s an edition on Snippets of our Love Story, it has been a long time since I wrote one. Have you guys missed it or it was more good riddance to over-mushiness for you?
The day was 26th September and we were due to attend a play – “Defending the Cavemen” – at Robertson Quay. It was a lovely evening with lovely weather. To say I was excited is an understatement for I was really excited and have planned in advance what I was going to wear – my then-latest online purchase of a dress. It wasn’t any special occasion or anniversary of ours but that we were doing something out of the norm and out of our comfort zone in a long time was enough to excite me.
So with my low-cut dress, more make-up than usual and heels, we go. The play was alright and despite my boo-boo of purchasing only one seat previously, we managed to find two connecting empty seats and sat together after the interval. It was ten when the play ended, we haven’t had dinner. Being unfamiliar with the area, we walked round and round trying to find somewhere to rest our feet but there was none that caught my eye.
Then the best thing happened: -
The BF said “It is already ten, most shops would be closing”
The BF suggested “Why don’t we go Newton Circus to eat?” (and why Newton of all places?)
The BF said “I didn’t know you wanted to eat nice dinner, if yes we should have come out earlier”
I had a wonderful evening planned out in my head but it was totally ruined. Yes, after seven years can’t I just bloody come out and say, “I want to eat GOOD FOOD, have a MARGRITA on you, chill.. or whatever…” but it is just different when it is the guy who plans or suggests it.
We ended the day with char kway teow and horfun at Zion Road Food center, surrounded by roaches (that place is infested!) and bade an early night as we headed home.
The BF very loh-mantic hor?
Please don’t stop the music… and the laughter…
Do the peeps agree? It was indeed a fantabulous and fun-filled night, or at least that is what I think. The night started off with some seven of us – Allister, Elissha, ylong, nei, soon, the BF and I – catching “The Extraordinary V Conference” at Zirca. The show was good, awesome, funny and I was tickled to the bones and erupted into the famed IJ-girl loud laughter for almost every part of the show. I especially loved the part with the Guan Yin Ma, not too derogatory in my opinion and all in the name of fun. You have to catch it, there were too many funny bits but the more memorable ones like “relac every corner”, “forgot about me right”, “lim pei cannot be president is it”… I highly recommend it, knowledge of current affairs would be a plus!
Anyway, the hefty $43.80 price tag comes with free re-entry to Zirca where the stand-up comedy was held as well as a mug/cup – mup? – of beer. After a little deliberation, we decided to head back to Zirca for a little impromptu clubbing session. Well, we did have free entry to it, so might as well
We hung around Rebel, where the general age group must have been 20/21 or something, ordered some drinks – vodka cranberry (yums) and lychee martini (double-yums). Then, don’t know how come suddenly soon and ylong ordered us a bottle of Chivas and we got ourselves a table near that dance floor some more because of that. Wting joined us soon after and that was when we headed down to the dance floors. I don’t know if it was due to the Chivas or the mixture of the drinks but it was a night where the hair was let loose and the inner inhibition ignored and the bathroom-dancing (haha) me revealed itself.
It helped that the two other girls were great fun too and I must say the BF, Allister and Nei was rather spontaneous too!! I guess now I understand why some people enjoy clubbing much, it is the company and the spontaneity
Allister and Elissha left early though and we were down to 5, then it was down to 2 on the dance floor – surprisingly, the two girls were left standing. The night ended when the boys admitted defeat, with one drunk, one emo and two tired. We headed back to soon’s car to grab our stuff before retreating into the rainy night.
